Well, it's been a while since my last big trip. For the last three and a half years I've been a student doing a 2nd degree computer science program. Very intense, and it has kind of monopolized my time and my mind. The trip to Japan for the language school almost two years ago was the only break.
So now the schooling is almost done. This a turning point in that I was hoping that the computer science program would open up new career directions and provide different kinds of life opportunities. At this point nothing is settled, however, and I really don't know where I will be in a few months from now.
In this time between finishing school and starting... what? - there is a very big trip planned. I will be travelling from the end of April to the middle of July.
Celene is volunteering in Sri Lanka for 6 months, and I will spend the month May in Sri Lanka with her. We will spend the first couple of weeks travelling around the south and east coast, when she had some time off. The next couple of weeks will be in the town where she is volunteering with perhaps weekend trips.
Then, for all of June and the first half of July, I will be in Vietnam and Laos. My friend Denis, who I visited there 10 years ago (the first entries in this blog!), is leading a motorcycle trip. The group will consist of various friends of his from all over the world.
The trip will go from Hanoi, through the interior of Vietnam and into Laos, almost all the way to Ho Chi Minh. Part of the group will finish there and fly out, and some of us will ride up the coast back to Hanoi.
It is going to be quite a trip. And it is a long time to be away so there are lots of things to arrange before I go, on top of finishing studies and job searching. So it is a crazy busy time, and I am really looking forward to being on that plane to Sri Lanka.
